Bikewise director Jo Jones is urging us to leave the car at home next Wednesday for National Ride to Work Day.

The Clovelly cycle enthusiast said its time to dust off your push bike and if you need some help clearing away the cobwebs Ms Jones will be at Hyde Park next Wedesday (October 13) offering free bike checks, tune-ups and advice on finding cycle routes between 6.30-9am.

Ms Jones, who is director of the cycle training company Bikewise and co-ordinator of a bike safety program broadcast on 2SER, said people were often nervous about cycling to work.

Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore MP said bike riding, even in Sydney traffic, was easier than many people might think.

For trips of less than 10 km, riding a bike will often get you to work cheaper and faster and will keep you healthy,” she said. “Better still it’s a zero emission transport option. If you haven’t yet got the confidence to ride a bike to work, sign up for a free City of Sydney Cycling Confidence course so you can join us on October 13.”

The cycling courses are run every Saturday and Sunday at Sydney Park to teach safe and responsible cycling to an ever increasing number of enthusiasts.

The City will hand out refreshments at two sites covering the eastern and western flanks of the city; Hyde Park South and Union Street Pyrmont.

City of Sydney Cycling Ambassadors Nell Schofield and Ian Roberts will be on hand to give tips to new riders. Visit ridetowork.com.au.
