Researchers conducted a study comparing the relationship between active transportation (% of trips taken by public transit, walking, or bicycling) and obesity rates in different counties from 1994-2006. While analyzing the data results from Europe, North America, and Australia, they found that levels of obesity had a strong inverse relationship with the amount of active transportation that one took part in. European countries were found to have the highest levels of active transportations, and evidently the lowest levels of obesity. Full Article
