On September 23, world leaders will be in New York City for a UN summit on the climate crisis. UN Secretary­ General Ban Ki-­moon is urging governments to support an ambitious global agreement to dramatically reduce carbon pollution. This process starts in New York and then goes to Lima (Climate Change Conference) in December culminating at the Paris 2015 Summit (21st Conference of the Parties on Climate Change).

With our future on the line and the whole world watching, the Peoples Climate March (on September 21) will take a stand and draw a red line in the sand to bend the course of history. Thousands will take to the streets to demand a better world: a world with an economy that works for people and the planet; a world safe from the ravages of climate change; a world with good jobs, clean air and water, and healthy communities.

Naomi Klein, Author – What happened in Copenhagen is this realization that no leader is coming to save us.

Bill McKibbon, 350.Org – the same leaders who don’t want the temperature to go up by more than 2° C have put a series of proposals which, when you add them up, leads to the temperature rising 6° C . At this temperature, civilization will not be possible. The fossil fuel industry wants to burn all its reserves. If they do, then we get that 6° C.

Heidi Cullen, Chief Scientist, ClimateCentral - one of every four CO2 molecules in our atmosphere today was put there by us…we are pumping CO2 into the atmosphere at a speed never seen before in modern history…we are racing into uncharted territory. Each day of inaction, each day of business as usual, gets us closer and closer on this crash course. There are switches that can be tipped and suddenly you are in new territory and you can’t even begin to know what to do about it.
