On September 23, world leaders will be in New York City for a UN summit on the climate crisis. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon is urging governments to support an ambitious global agreement to dramatically reduce carbon pollution. This process starts in New York and then goes to Lima (Climate Change Conference) in December culminating at the Paris 2015 Summit (21st Conference of the Parties on Climate Change).

With our future on the line and the whole world watching, the Peoples Climate March (on September 21) will take a stand and draw a red line in the sand to bend the course of history. Thousands will take to the streets to demand a better world: a world with an economy that works for people and the planet; a world safe from the ravages of climate change; a world with good jobs, clean air and water, and healthy communities.

Through a relentless investigation to find the answer, Disruption takes an unflinching look at the devastating consequences of our inaction.

The exploration lays bare the terrifying science, the shattered political process, the unrelenting industry special interests and the civic stasis that have brought us to this social, moral and ecological crossroads. The film also takes us behind-the-scenes of the efforts to organize the largest climate rally in the history of the planet during the UN world climate summit.

This is the story of our unique moment in history. We are living through an age of tipping points and rapid social and planetary change. We’re the first generation to feel the impacts of climate disruption, and the last generation that can do something about it. The film enlarges the issue beyond climate impacts and makes a compelling call for bold action that is strong enough to tip the balance to build a clean energy future. Reverend Clinton Miller, Brown Memorial Baptist Church - This environmental issue is the singular issue of our time, of our day, that will determine how we live, where we live and if we live.

Naomi Klein, Author – What happened in Copenhagen is this realization that no leader is coming to save us.

Bill McKibbon, 350.Org – the same leaders who don’t want the temperature to go up by more than 2° C have put a series of proposals which, when you add them up, leads to the temperature rising 6° C . At this temperature, civilization will not be possible. The fossil fuel industry wants to burn all its reserves. If they do, then we get that 6° C.

Heidi Cullen, Chief Scientist, ClimateCentral - one of every four CO2 molecules in our atmosphere today was put there by us…we are pumping CO2 into the atmosphere at a speed never seen before in modern history…we are racing into uncharted territory. Each day of inaction, each day of business as usual, gets us closer and closer on this crash course. There are switches that can be tipped and suddenly you are in new territory and you can’t even begin to know what to do about it.

Keya Chatterjee, Director of Renewable Energy, WWF – our atmosphere is different. Every event that happens now is in the context of climate change; it’s different than what it would have been. We are in the fight of our lives.

Ricken Patel, Founder & Executive Director of AVAAZ – scientists are screaming from the rooftops for avoiding a greater than 2° C temperature rise. We have three tipping points where climate change could spin out of control – Arctic melt, methane and the acidification of oceans. It’s not about a few more droughts, a few more storms, it’s about a catastrophic shift in the fragile balance of our biosphere that threatens everything we love.

When it comes to climate change, why do we do so little when we know so much?
